The "RAD" in RAD Club stands for many things:
- "radical", as in not the boring norm
- as in "that's radical, dude," a skateboarder's/surfer's way of saying something was "cool"
- an acronym for "Relationships And Discipleship", or in other words, a club that wants children to make good, safe, reliable friends (both young and old), and to a live a life full of integrity and high character as based on the teaching and example of the very real historical figure from a long time ago, Jesus, who also happens to be a living, influential, and divinely spiritual being for today.
RAD Club started back in 2011, meeting in the home of Kat Patrick. The format was the same as now -- sandwich tea, games, songs, and thoughtful videos and discussion. Before long, the group outgrew her house, and in 2012, it moved to the Baptist Church on Dyer's Hill.
Now attracting as many as 30 young people a week between the ages of 8 and 11 (give or take a year on either side), the club meets on Fridays during term time, starting at 3:30 pm. There is a "walking bus" from the primary school, where you can arrange for your child to meet with Kat or other RAD Club representatives and be safely walked down to the club.
Pick up is at 5 pm from the Baptist Church.
RAD Club is completely free -- there are no hidden charges involved, although your child may like to purchase a t-shirt in team colours for £4.50. These are kept at the church with your child's name on the label so that there is no need to remember to pack it in school bags each week. We will arrange for any washing of the shirts should it become necessary.
All adult helpers hold a DBS certificate (which used to be called a CRB), and we meet under the banner of a group called Urban Saints. We are funded by the Charlbury Baptist Church and Churches Together in Charlbury, along with some private donations.
